San Cristóbal Week 4 Daily

Attended a couch-surfing event for the first time on Sunday, there are very few couch-surfing events here. Before I went, I saw that there were more than a dozen people signing up, but when I arrived, except for the organizer, I was the only one, and I arrived 15 minutes late. He moved here from Tuxtla, a big city next to him, three years ago. He has been teaching Spanish on the Internet. He is also very good in English. He can speak French, Italian, and Portuguese. He has also learned a little Chinese. After we chatted for more than half an hour, another Brazilian who participated in the event came. After chatting for a while, the organizer asked us if we wanted to go to a friend's house for another friend's farewell party, who was Czech and had been living here for a few months and was leaving tomorrow. So we went with him, and on the way he said that most of the people at the party were people he knew from his salsa class. When I went to his friend's house, I found that the teacher of my salsa dance class was also there, and many other people had met in class before. It's really small, and you can meet acquaintances wherever you go.

Went to the gym on Monday for less than $10 a month. Although not advanced, the basic equipment is complete. When I went there at seven or eight in the morning two days ago, I found that there were too many people, because many people had to go to the gym before going to work. So I went there at ten o'clock in the next two days, and there were far fewer people. It's been a long time since I lifted weights. After a few days, my whole body was sore, but I felt good. I also started running again this week. I haven’t run for five months, and the altitude here is 2,000 meters. There are also up and down slopes, so running is a bit strenuous.

This week, two Spanish teachers came to the restaurant in front of my house or in the backyard to teach. Anyway, the landlord's restaurant is closed every day and there are no customers. One of the teachers was late for a while two days ago, but after seeing how punctual I was every time, she also arrived on time gradually, and the habit can be changed gradually. One day in class, we talked about local special drinks, and found one that I hadn't tasted yet. The next day, a teacher brought me a cup of tascalate in Starbucks cups from home, which is made with corn, cocoa, achiote and cinnamon powder. , it's delicious. This teacher's birthday on Saturday, I bought her a small piece of cake on Friday, she was very happy.

The proprietress and the owner of my neighbor restaurant often talk to me about food. They often watch videos of various travel and world food on YouTube, and they also recommend me to watch them. Recently, I have recommended various local delicious restaurants to me. They only have Tuesdays off a week, so we went to a restaurant she recommended for brunch after 10 on Tuesday, but for them it was breakfast, the word lunch (almuerzo) is not used here because they rarely have lunch at noon When they eat, they eat (comer) refers to the so-called lunch (2-4 pm). See you at about 10:30. I got off my Spanish class at 10 and was going back to my room. I found that I forgot to bring the key out and locked the room. I asked the landlord’s son, but he didn’t have a spare key. Fortunately, there was a worker at home who he Help me remove the plank from the window, climb in through the window and open the door. It was almost 10:30 when it was over. I received a text message from the proprietress saying that they would be there soon, so I hurried to the restaurant with Dian’er, I really didn’t want to be late. But after arriving, I didn't see them in the restaurant. Most Mexicans have a really poor sense of time. They arrived 20 minutes late. Later they explained to me that what they said was "coming soon" was a very uncertain time, maybe 5 minutes, maybe 30 minutes. We actually planned to visit this store last week, but we didn't wait because there were too many people in line. Arrived at 10:30 this Tuesday, but we still waited almost half an hour, but it was worth the wait. The food was good and cheap. We ordered four dishes to share, and we ate so much that we didn’t have to eat for the rest of the day. On Saturday we went to a rare seafood restaurant she recommended, and it was delicious.

Coming out of the gym on Thursday, I encountered another lively holiday parade on the street, this time celebrating a religious holiday at another church. The people in the parade were all dressed in different costumes, most of them wearing something like a big circular swimming ring, all kinds of demons danced wildly, and some were very happy. I remember the first time I came here at the end of July. When I went to a cooking class, I heard that if you see a red light on the door on the street on weekends, it means that they are selling Tamales. I didn't notice it in the last few weeks, I saw it this weekend and bought a few.

Since I ate beef noodles from that delicious Chinese restaurant two weeks ago, I have been wanting to try their other noodles, so I contacted a few people I met in the language exchange group for the past two weeks on Friday, and formed a group For dinner, let's go to my friend's noodle shop together. We ordered dumplings, Szechuan cold noodles, beef noodles and biang biang noodles, all of which were great, and friends said it was the best Chinese food they had in Mexico. Three of the five of us are from California, one girl is from San Diego, just graduated from Berkeley, is a climate engineer, and works remotely. Another is a graphic designer from Los Angeles who works remotely for a non-profit environmental organization. The other girl, a native of Houston, Texas, studied international relations in college. She had just graduated and won a highly competitive Fulbright scholarship to teach English and cultural exchange at a college here. Although she was young, she was very knowledgeable. The other is a friend brought by one of them. He is Mexican, but has lived in Australia for more than 20 years. He has also lived in Thailand and California, USA. He is a programmer. After eating, we went to a very interesting bar. The front door is very small, just like a normal house, but there are several courtyards after entering, which are very large and overcrowded, including locals and foreigners. It is said to be one of the few local draft breweries and bars. They all especially thanked me for organizing this dinner, and I told them that I made a list of local gourmet restaurants, and after realizing that I was a foodie, they wanted me to organize more often in the future, haha.

Sometimes after dinner, in order to digest the food, I stroll around the street casually, and one day I enter a small shop with a very artistic atmosphere. There are many similar shops here, selling paintings, handicrafts and so on. There are many artists and hippies in the area. Most of them wear strange clothes and hairstyles, and some set up stalls on the street to sell their own handicrafts, and some play guitars on the street. There are many small posters about classes or activities on the doors of similar shops, most of which are about meditation, yoga, sound therapy, trying herbs, aboriginal sauna rituals, as well as painting classes, chocolate making classes, hand making Craft classes, etc. The other day, Xiaoshi'er went to climb another church on the east side. It had to climb a lot of steps, but the view above was beautiful. While running one day, I climbed up a church on the west side, and also saw the beautiful scenery of the whole city.

On Sunday, I had an appointment with a friend to go hiking in the park in the suburbs, but the friend said in the morning that he seemed to be ill and could not go. This is the third time he has released my pigeons. The first time was when he helped a friend move. It took a lot longer than expected and couldn't go. Last time he said he was going to this park for a hike, but he said he couldn't go again because his friend's car hit him and he was going to help. This is one of the reasons why I like to travel alone. Many times I make an appointment with my friends. If they change their minds, it will affect my original plan. It is better to go alone. With no more than three things to do, I decided to go hiking in the park by myself. I took a small bus and arrived earlier than the park's normal opening time, so there were very few people inside, and I didn't see a few people on foot for more than an hour. It felt like I was back in California while hiking. Hike out to see some people doing yoga outdoors, I went to have lunch at a small family restaurant next door, they have their own big organic garden, selling plants, flowers and seeds. The ingredients for a large plate of dishes are all vegetables grown in their own garden, which are very fresh. I came out of the park and walked back to the city. On the way, I passed a very lively football game, and many locals watched the game.
