Nanjing (1)

At the end of August, my friend asked me if I would be interested in helping me to work temporarily for two months in the international department of a middle school in Nanjing that my company cooperates with in September and October. I originally planned to travel to Xinjiang in September, but fortunately, I haven't made any plans yet. I have considered whether to go to Nanjing to work for two months first. After graduating from university, I came to the United States to study and work and live in graduate school. I have never worked in China. I feel that this is a good opportunity to experience the state of domestic work and life. After all, the plan could not keep up with the changes, so I felt that I would postpone my travel plan and go to Nanjing to work for two months. I remember that the first time I went to Nanjing was ten years ago when I was an intern at the CCPIT in my senior year, and I went to Nanjing to hold an exhibition in the coldest month of January.

The several experiences of taking the high-speed rail back to China are really good, it is so convenient. After arriving in Nanjing, my colleagues took me to a furnished apartment that had already been rented and helped me settle down. I like high-rise apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows, where the light is good, unobstructed, and you can see the distant view. Then took me to lunch, and then took me to the supermarket to buy basic daily necessities. The English teacher of the high school who worked in the United States just retired this year, and was introduced by the same friend to teach in this school for a year. All the foreign teachers hired by this school lived in the same apartment building. I went to say hello to him, and it felt very cordial to meet him in China.

On the first day of work, my colleagues took me around the school. The school’s hardware facilities are really good, including a gym, massage chairs, masseurs, and a billiards room. The food in the cafeteria is really good. There is a special window for teachers to take meals. There are various types of meals, including ordinary stir-fried dishes, pasta and pastries, desserts and small stir-fries, etc., and the price is also cheap.

Unexpectedly, in Nanjing, I contacted the Dalian sister who I met three months ago in the Everest base camp group. She also just moved to Nanjing last week. She invited me to her house and cooked a big table for me. The home-cooked food was so delicious. Meet old acquaintances in other lands. The school at work gave each teacher mooncake coupons on Teacher's Day. I went to the store to exchange for a large box of Yuanzu ice cream crispy mooncakes. When will I have to eat them?

Local friends I met online took me to Nanjing Olympic Sports Center, Nanjing International Expo Center, Poly Grand Theater and Nanjing Eye in Hexi District. This area is very modern.

This is the first time I took the Nanjing subway. The subway ticket is a small blue plastic coin. Stroll around Nanjing University and the Drum Tower. The Zifeng Building, the tallest building in Nanjing, looks too familiar, isn’t it really built after the Willis Tower in Chicago?

I like to eat Nanjing cuisine. A few days before the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, the school gave gifts again: moon cakes and a large box of fruit. The treatment of teachers in China is much better than in the United States. I have been a teacher in the United States for seven years and I don’t remember any gifts from the school. At noon on weekdays, I went to a restaurant near the school for dinner with a few colleagues and girls, and by the way, I helped the two foreign coaches from the UK to practice Chinese.
