Kaohsiung, Tainan

I just arrived in Kaohsiung from Kenting by passenger transport last night. After putting down my luggage, my sofa owner took me to Ruifeng Night Market for supper. It is said that the famous Liuhe Night Market is only for tourists, and the locals generally don’t go there, because things are twice as expensive. This Ruifeng Night Market is the most favorite night market since I came to Taiwan: there are many kinds of food, very unique, there are many food that I have never seen in other night markets, and the price is super cheap, just because of this I decided to live in Kaohsiung again one night. At the night market, I ate milk-flavored mochi, roast duck burritos, stinky tofu, and drank guava juice.

Today, my sofa owner and his friend took me to eat, drink and have fun in Kaohsiung City all day on a motorcycle. I went to Lianchitan, Dragon Tiger Tower, Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, Starlight Wharf, 85th Building, Tailu, and Pier-2 Art Zone. There are many creative steel sculpture exhibitions here. I also went to the Banana Wharf. I will soon I fell in love with this city, the streets are very spacious, there are few people and cars, there is no congestion at all, and the weather is very comfortable, like Southern California in winter. It is unimaginable that this is the second largest city in Taiwan.

I feel that the pace of life in Kaohsiung is very slow. The car starts fast, but the walk is super slow, which is a veritable "slow walk". It is no exaggeration to say that it is one step per second. The sofa owner told his friends that they usually walk so slowly. It is really a challenge for me to slow down my pace so much. Compared with the daily rampage before, it is really a pure leisure game for me. In the evening, I went to Xiziwan to watch the sunset, and sat by the sea to listen to street performers playing guitar and singing. I also went to Chaishan Natural Scenic Area, Shoushan Park to see monkeys, and finally went to Kaohsiung Library to see the night view.

My sofa owner can be described as a senior foodie. First, he took me to eat the best Japanese curry in Kaohsiung at noon. In the evening, he went to various famous local restaurants and ate duck rice, duck blood cake, Salted soy milk (I was very surprised, I thought that here, like the southerners in mainland China, they only eat sweet ones, but they are actually drinking it for the first time, which is a bit like the tofu nao in the north), popping toast, salt crispy chicken (I just know salt crispy Chicken is just a general term for all fried food shops, not just selling salted crispy chicken at all). It’s good for three people to eat delicious food. They can share and taste many different kinds of food without getting too full.

After one day, I learned a lot of Taiwanese Mandarin and a little Taiwanese from them. The most interesting are the following: ①They call potatoes "potatoes", and "potatoes" are not potatoes, but peanuts. I was surprised when he told me that their rice dumplings had potatoes in them, but he actually said they had peanuts in them. ②Bean buns: I thought it was red bean paste buns, but they are actually bean skins folded three or four times and deep-fried. ③ Qilixiang: The first meaning is the plant in Jay Chou's song, and the second meaning is chicken butt. ④Xiao Xiaobing is the "little yellow man" in China. ⑤ Gestures of 7-10 numbers, the gesture of 8 in mainland China is their 7, it is just another way of thinking. ⑥ Guava is called "guava" here, but it is pronounced bá là. If I hang out with them for a few more days, I probably won't be able to speak mainland Mandarin anymore.

I have heard for a long time that Tainan is the gourmet capital of Taiwan. After finishing Kaohsiung, I plan to take the train to Tainan. My sofa owner in Kaohsiung is really a real foodie. He heard that I will go to Tainan next stop, which aroused his greed. The night before, he urged his friend to drive to Tainan together. We drove for about an hour to Tainan. The parking place is very interesting, it is the kind of three-dimensional automatic mechanical parking building. Parked the car and went straight to Guohua Street. The three of them were very efficient. Each of them went to three different restaurants to queue up to order a meal, and then they met at the one with seats to eat. We ate Asong cut (guà) buns, Fusheng bowl rice cakes, Haowei soil angu fish soup, Guohua Street Acun beef soup, sweet and spicy, black wheel, fried chicken foreign firm, matcha ice cream, Qiu family traditional snacks Roll rice noodles. Originally, they wanted to go back to play basketball at two o'clock, but since they came, let's settle down, and decided to have dinner here as well. We ate from noon to six o'clock, and when we were full, we walked around to digest and digest, and then started the next room. On Hai'an Road, I ate milkfish porridge, the hometown of Tainan milkfish, meat dumplings, Tongji Anping bean curd with lemon and black bean curd, fried buns, Jipin shrimp rice, and Huangji eel pasta. It seems that there is nothing to do in Tainan except to eat. They called their friends in Tainan and took us around and went to the Anping Tree House. After a full meal, I took the train to Chiayi, and they drove back to Kaohsiung. I really hope they come to Beijing and I can entertain them!
