It took half an hour to fly from El Salvador to Guatemala City in the evening. After getting off the plane, I went directly to Antigua Guatemala. The airport minibus had to gather three people to drive, because it was the last flight, and I waited for ten minutes alone. No one else was going to Antigua, so I had to call Uber. The nearly one-hour drive costs just over US$20, which is much cheaper than in the United States. Along the way, I found that the fast food industry here is more developed than in El Salvador. In addition to those seen in El Salvador, I also saw Denny's and Taco Bell. When I arrived at Antigua, the owner of the sofa sent me his address in the city center. I didn’t know until I got there that his family opened a hotel and would provide sofa guests with spare rooms. This was really the first time I met. The next morning I planned to go for a run, but I gave up after running for three minutes. In the afternoon, I signed up for a group to climb the Pacaya volcano. In the group, I met a Polish couple who also just arrived in Guatemala yesterday. They will spend a month here. Their vacation is so long. Chatting and talking, another tourist in the front row of the car turned around and began to speak Polish to them. It turns out that she is also Polish, but she has immigrated to the United States for more than 20 years. She told me that she is also a teacher, teaching high school AP psychology in Florida. study. The Polish couple thought that I had very little vacation for a week, and it was unimaginable to hear that the teacher had even less. Her youngest son has just started college, and her husband has changed jobs and has no time to travel with her. This is the first time for her to travel alone. Her husband is an airline pilot, and they used to travel together as a family, including China.

Although this Pacaya volcano is not difficult to climb, it only takes more than an hour to go up. But the wind was strong, and the road was basically a dirt road, blowing dust all over the body. The road was either small stones or volcanic rocks, so the road was not easy to walk. When we rested on the top and waited for the sunset, the guide began to roast marshmallows in the small magma cave, and the temperature in the other larger magma cave was higher, and the locals made pizza on the spot and baked it in it for sale to tourists. I heard that flowing magma could be seen here eight months ago. The wind on the top of the mountain is huge, and the temperature is also low. When we went down the mountain, it was already dark, and the tour guide showed us the flashlight so we could go down the mountain safely. Guatemala is most famous for its volcanoes. I signed up for a two-day and one-night group to climb the Acatenango volcano. Before I went, I heard from local friends and travel friends who had been there that it would be very tiring, so let’s challenge it. When reporting to the group, it was said that three meals, 3 liters of water, coats, gloves and hats would be included, and it would be good to bring 1 liter of water with you. In addition to a liter of water, I also brought some snacks and my own down jacket, because I heard that the top of the mountain will be very cold. At the foot of the mountain, we rented trekking poles as soon as we got out of the car, and three tour guides followed our group of more than 20 people. The tour guide asked who could help with the translation, but none of them could speak English, so a white American teammate offered to help and started the translation. At noon, we climbed for more than an hour to reach the entrance of the Volcano National Park. We were already sweating, and the road was full of big uphill and dusty. During the break, I asked the American translation teammate which state he was from and why he was so good at Spanish. Turns out he wasn't far from me, from Sacramento, and he was also a teacher, teaching high school Spanish, no wonder. He also took advantage of this week's vacation to play. Later, while crawling and chatting, I learned that he would travel to Mexico after graduating from university. He didn't want to stay, but there happened to be a job opportunity to teach English and he could take Spanish classes for free, so he stayed. He has worked and lived in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil for seven years. His Portuguese is as good as Spanish, and he has been teaching Spanish for the eighth year since returning to the United States. In the past 15 years, whenever I have a holiday, I will travel. He is the real travel madman. He has been to nearly 200 countries in the world except North Korea and Taiwan (don't talk about politics). He has been to all the others, mainly because of the epidemic. He has also been to many war-torn countries that I have never dared to think about or heard of. He is not only a travel fanatic, but also an avid outdoor enthusiast. Every summer vacation in the university, he will work as a part-time tour guide to take the youth group to wild survival camping and so on. Every weekend, I basically go to cross-country running for dozens of kilometers, and I often run ultramarathons. I have run more than 60 different types of marathons. It is said that he was invited by the organizer to be a pacer for the first time last year, and he needs to maintain the same speed throughout the race. Another brother from the Netherlands studied dentistry for 6 years and worked as a dentist for two years. He also resigned a few months ago to travel for half a year.

After five or six hours of climbing, we finally arrived at the camp. There are two big tents, each of which sleeps 12 people. Put down your backpack and go to the toilet. The Spanish teacher said that he was going to climb up again to find a better location to take pictures of the volcano, and asked me if I wanted to go together. Back at the campsite, sit by the bonfire and rest. The guide made hot chocolate for us to drink, which was much warmer. I heard that five or six people paid more to hire a guide to hike to the Fuego volcano next to the big volcano to watch the eruption up close. Fortunately, I didn't participate. They didn't come back until midnight, and they didn't see much magma eruption due to the thick clouds and fog. The guide made pasta for dinner. After eating, everyone chatted by the campfire and watched the volcano erupt from time to time. At night, I basically didn’t sleep all night in the tent. First, it was too cold. I put another coat on my legs and it didn’t warm me up. The sleeping bag was too thin and didn’t keep warm. The second is that there are too many people in the tent, and you can listen to the movement with earplugs. The third is that the big volcano outside erupts every 20 to 30 minutes, and the movement is even bigger. I got up at four o'clock the next morning and followed the guide to climb to the summit, which was about 4,000 meters above sea level. It is extremely strenuous to take a step and a half step. When we got to the top, we waited to watch the sunrise. The temperature was very low, and the style was too big. If we didn’t stand firm, we would be blown away. After watching the sunrise, I went back to the campsite to have breakfast, pack up and prepare to go down the mountain. The backpack was much lighter. I didn’t stop and rest all the way down the mountain. I went down in three or four hours, but it was not easy. Many places were too slippery with sand and stones, so I had trekking poles. I also fell down a few times, and my legs were weak when I went down the mountain. After returning to the hotel, I lay down for a long time before recovering. Although it was hard work, the experience was worth it.
